Bangla social networking site Beshto turns 2

the first Bangla social networking site has become the second largest Bangla site after Wikipedia based on content. Moreover, it has also amassed over a 100,000 regular users.

Beshto!, a Bangla phrase that roughly translates to ‘Wow, that’s nice!’ in English. Beshto.com started its journey two years back with the aim of making Bangladeshis utter this phrase at least once even among all the toils and troubles of daily lives; and within these two years, the first Bangla social networking site has become the second largest Bangla site after Wikipedia based on content. Moreover, it has also amassed over a 100,000 regular users.
The 28th of February marked the second anniversary of the site and Beshto officials spent the day socializing and relaxing with users and media personnel. Fahim Mashroor, one of the co founders, stated “Beshto upholds Bangladeshi lifestyle and culture and is also working to enrich Bangla content online.” He also added, “Even among the prominence of renowned international infotainment networks, Beshto has been used by 100,000 regular users in the past two years.” “Even among the prominence of renowned international infotainment networks, Beshto has been used by 100,000 regular users in the past two years.”
The average age of Beshto users are between 25-35 years old, of whom over 75,000 are registered. Moreover, of those who visit the site for the first time, at least 50% of them come back due to the ease of use and the interesting content that Beshto offers. Mashroor informed the media that Beshto has already found its place among the top 100 most visited websites and after a mobile optimized version of the site was released, 50% users are visiting the site on their mobile phones. Very soon, a mobile phone app will also be released.
Following a beta release in 2012, Beshto officially started its journey on the 28th of February in 2013 with the aim of becoming an internet gateway for Bangladeshi netizens. At present, users can share their thoughts, photos and so on alongside setting up discussion threads, Q/A sessions, etc. Currently 20,000 new content is posted on the site every month.
