State Minister for Post and Telecommunications Tarana Halim declared day before yesterday that the government has started a process to detect and block websites that contain pornography and vulgar pictures and video contents.

This comes after the High Court directed the government to stop uploading and sending pornography and vulgar pictures through mobile phones and social media last year.

Initially, the ministry planned to form a committee, with different stakeholders including intelligence and law enforcing agencies, as stated by Tarana halim at a meeting at her secretariat office.

“Pornography creates huge problem in our society.”

The state minister said “Pornography creates huge problem in our society and our telecom division has taken it as a challenge”. She also added that the committee will detect websites and start processes to block those, although no clear method has been declared for doing this.

“We also want to follow the good practices in different countries.”

The committee will be made up of representatives from law enforcing agencies, intelligence agencies, the ICT division, telecom department and information ministry. The committee will be headed by the Director General of BTRC.
