Dell See Fall in PC Sales

In the U.S., HP maintained the top position for PC shipments in the second quarter, despite a 10.1 percent decline, according to a Gartner report.

Lenovo, HP and Dell led the worldwide market for PC shipments, though the top three vendors also saw sizable drops in shipments as the overall market recorded a 9.5 percent decline from the second quarter of 2014, according to a Gartner research report.In fact, all vendors in the top five saw a decline in shipments, with Lenovo, which boasts 19.7 percent market share, falling 6.8 percent. HP, with 17.4 percent market share, dropped 9.5 percent.Dell, which has 14 percent of the market, fell nearly 5 percent, while the two companies rounding out the top five, Asus and Acer Group, fell 10.2 percent and 20.2 percent, respectively, compared with the same quarter last year.Vendors outside the top five, represent 35.7 percent of the market, and saw more than a 10 percent decline in shipments.

Overall worldwide PC shipments totaled 68.4 million units in the second quarter of 2015. The report indicated the future doesn’t look promising, noting this was the steepest PC shipment decline since the third quarter of 2013. Gartner is projecting PC shipments will decline 4.4 percent in 2015.
