The leading digital brand of the country, Robi, has unveiled an innovative app that connects every citizen of Bangladesh with the historical moments that were instrumental in the lead up to the ultimate emergence of Bangladesh in 1971.

Hon’ble Minister for Ministry of Cultural Affairs Asaduzzaman Noor MP inaugurated this innovative digital app along with Robi’s Managing Director and CEO, Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, and Robi’s management team at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre today.

Eminent artist Mustafa Monwar, Chairman, Sher-e-Bangla Foundation, A K Fayyazul Haque and Dean of Faculty of Arts, Dhaka University, Dr. Abu Md. Delwar Hossain were present on the occasion. Mr. Fayyaz also happens to be the grand-son of Sher-e-Bangla A K Fazlul Haque.

Also present were fifteen female freedom fighters. The invited guests gave them a standing ovation as a mark of respect for their contribution in the nation’s glorious war of independence.

Robi’s Vice President, Brand and Market Communications explained the rationale of the project. He also clarified the technical aspects of the Bijoy Itihash app.

It is interesting to note that each of the historical moments captured by the Bijoy Itihash app correspond to each of the seven pillars of the Jatiyo Smrity Shoudho (national mausoleum) located in Savar.

The idea to tag the history with the taka notes was taken considering the fact that every taka note contains the image of Jatiyo Smrity Shoudho and taka is available in all parts of the country, every citizen having access to them.

Such considerations makes the app a very useful instrument in facilitating a deep bond between every citizen and our proud history as a nation.

Mustafa Monwar said: “The young generation is very tech-savvy, they download a lot of things on their digital devices. This app could open a new horizon for them to learn about our history.”

Using the Bijoy Itihash app, anyone can scan taka notes of two, five, ten, twenty, fifty, hundred and five-hundred denominations to view an audio-visual on Language Movement of 1952, Juktofront Election Movement of 1954, Martial Law imposition of 1958, Education Movement of 1962, Six-Point Movement of 1966, Gono Obbhutthan (mass upsurge) of 1969 and our glorious War of Independence in 1971, respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Hon’ble Cultural Affairs Minister, Asaduzzaman Noor MP said: “I thank Robi for introducing such an innovative app. Young generation is very habituated with digital technology. In this backdrop, the app could be a good source of information on our glorious history.”

Robi’s Managing Director and CEO, Mahtab Uddin Ahmed said: “Robi is always proud of its identity as a Bangladeshi brand that celebrates every aspect of our rich history. I’m sure you have noticed that in all our activities there is an influence of what makes us proud as Bangladeshis. Launching of the Bijoy Itihash app is only a continuation of the tradition of our brand. We truly feel honoured to be able to connect each citizen with the proud history of the country’s emergence as an independent nation through this innovative app.”

It is very important for the citizens of a nation to be aware about the history of the nation’s independence. Any shortcoming, in this regard, may derail the nation from its founding principles. Robi hopes to address this issue with the launch of the Bijoy Itihash app.
