I will take LGED to a new height:Abdur Rashid Khan

Newly-appointed Chief Engineer  of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) Md Abdur Rashid Khan said , he will take this organisation to a new height with the cooperation of all circles and using his vast experience of his long colourful career .He was talking to this corespondent  at LGED Headquartets on Thursday who took  charge two weeks back .

Mr Khan said , within 150 days , four chief engineers have completed their tenures following the seniority of the department  and said ,I want to give credit to all to march forward this development oriented organisation .

He further stressed the need for encouraging field level officers and employees and termed himself as a guardian of them .

‘I will go in the right direction’ with the cooperation of all concern including LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam MP and Senior Secretary of Local Government Division  Md Helal Uddin Ahmed .

He said, this year we will try to achieve  100 per cent  goal of ADP though it is tough amid global recession.

Additional Chief Engineer  of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) Md Abdur Rashid Khan  has been appointed as the Chief Engineer of LGED on  April 25, 2029  and he has taken charge on the same day .

He was replaced by  former Chief Engineer Md Matiar Rahman  as he has retired from the government service on April 25, 2020.

Abdur Rashid Khan  joined LGED in 1988  as an Assistant Engineer and served various positions including Upazila Engineer, Executive Engineer in 2002  and Project Director at LGED head quarters in 2007. Afterwards, he discharged responsibility as Superintending Engineer in 2017  and promoted as Additional Chief Engineer in 2018. He was  senior among all Additional Chief Engineers in LGED.

He completed Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 1984 and earned Masters on Construction Management  from Birmingham University, UK . Apart from, he attended various seminars and workshops on project management, quality control, design and asset management at home and abroad. He is a fellow of the Institution of Engineers of Bangladesh (IEB).

Md Abdur Rashid Khan was born in  Kaohola  Upazila under Bogura  district.

It is mentionable that LGED is one the largest engineering agencies of the country. It began its journey in 60s as Rural Works Programme and with the passage of time its activities expanded from remotest corner of the country up to the cities.

Role of LGED in strengthening of rural economy through development of rural transportation and improvement of rural markets and growth centers are visible across the country. Contribution of these infrastructures are enormous in achieving the ever increasing national growth. People living in rural areas now have the access to metaled roads within two kilometers while the rural infrastructures play pivotal role in the improvement of lifestyle and reducing poverty.

LGED also maintains its presence in the infrastructure development in urban areas. The department is also involved in providing technical assistance, governance improvement and capacity building of Urban Local Bodies (Municipalities and City Corporations).

LGED’s role in augmenting agricultural and fish production through small scale water resources (SSWR) development projects is remarkable. These initiatives have created short and long term employment opportunities for the low income group of people. Local stakeholders are included while planning and implementing the schemes and in the operation and maintenance.

Besides, the activities mentioned above, LGED extending technical assistance to Local Government Institutions. Required technical assistance is also provided to various ministries.

LGED also develops infrastructure database, maps, technical specifications, manual etc. required for development projects. Regular training courses conducted by LGED for enhancing skill of its own employees, members of the Local Government Institutions and other stakeholders.

    Many thanks for this article. I’d personally also like to mention that it can always be hard while you are in school and just starting out to initiate a long credit ranking. There are many college students who are simply trying to endure and have a protracted or good credit history can sometimes be a difficult thing to have.
